On my 5 Style Goals for the Summer, I confessed that I hadn’t own a floral item in a while. My winter wardrobe is all made of neutral solid colors and I tend to follow that criteria when picking Summer pieces. I decided to challenge myself to buy and style a floral piece for an outfit post and here it is. But of course, being as ‘cost-per-wear’ conscious as I am – I cheated haha.
Here is what happened, my first option was to thrift a floral dress and after visiting a few charity shops I just couldn’t deal with the fact that most of the floral Summer pieces looked worn and had ‘that smell’. So to thrift a floral piece became a no-go. Then I headed to a store full of sales and I thought ‘I shall find something here’. And I did! I had a few floral tops in my hand and narrowed my choice to a t-shirt with a beautiful mix of colorful flowers and when I was on the queue to pay and saw some floral shawls on clearance I had a realization – ‘I can spend a lot less if I make a top out of a shawl!’. I immediately put back the t-shirt, left the store empty handed, went to a charity shop and bought this floral shawl at the lowest price possible – win. Making a bandeau out of colorful shawls is such a viable idea, especially for beach vacations! For an everyday city outfit it might come with the struggle of constantly having to re-tight the top which is exactly what I had to deal with while shooting this outfit. Everything for the blog post!
That’s the tale folks. That’s how I was able to save some bucks and still create a pretty flirty Summer outfit. It’s all because prints can easily bore me and therefore get much less wear so for the time being, I won’t spend on them.
Now let’s quickly talk about mini-skirts…suede mini-skirts in particular! I am completely hooked. The one I am wearing here is my second one (this is the first one) and I got it recently from Primark. I knew it was a good deal because it’s so simple and classy, one can’t even tell it is dirty cheap lol. I obviously went for a neutral color and yeah, I am really happy to own this piece. I cannot wait to style it during Fall/Winter, you guys will be able to see how versatile it is.
