Our lives have become pretty fast over the past decade. These years coincide with the ‘explosion’ of social media networks that constantly grab out attention, so its only right to attribute the ‘flying time’ phenomena to the latter. Being constantly distracted by a phone or simply ‘glued’ to it has an array of negative impacts. However, we can’t ignore all the benefits that communication gadgets have brought to our lives. The other day I was reflecting about how much I appreciate my phone, my computer and the overall evolution of technology. On that note, I decided to write this rather random piece. I thought it would be fun to share with you guys a few reasons why I appreciate my smartphone.
Keeps me great company
Have you ever been in a situation in which you were thankful your phone existed? Well aside from those, I usually find myself thankful for my phone during my commute whilst on the bus. Living in a small town with a bloody repetitive jurisdiction, I find it necessary to distract myself from staring at the same window views and my phone always comes in handy for that purpose. I end up getting excited for my bus journeys just because it’s a great opportunity to play my favorite games.
Keeps my relationships alive
If we were still dependent of expensive phone calls or even letters, how many friendships we would’ve lost and how much good advice we wouldn’t have gotten? Technology and the ease it provides us to communicate with people located far away, still amazes me. Having moved away from home quite young, I owe the possibility of carrying and nurturing many of my friendships to a smart phone. Particular praise to Whatsapp, because being able to call my parents and loved ones for free is something I always appreciated. Btw, who else says ‘I love you’ to their friends by constantly tagging them in Memes? That’s right; I deeply believe this is a generational way to prove friendship lol.
Quickest source of inspiration
It’s safe to say that majority of the inspiration to my creative pursuits comes from the screenshots on my camera roll. The original photos are usually from Instagram and Pinterest, and I really appreciate the handiness that comes with having all images that inspire me to ‘live my best life’ on a device that fits in my pocket. I also can’t get rid of my old phone because it does hold inspiring screenshots that my lazy self can’t commit to transfer to the laptop. It’s crazy how much an ‘Instagram brake’ can be so inducing to new ideas and #lifegoals.
It can create a job
Who would have thought that things would evolve to a point in which regular individuals are able to make
good great money just by, figuratively speaking, owning a smartphone? Surely our grandmas and grandpas didn’t! As Gary Vaynerchuk always says ”We’re living in amazing times”. If only the generations before us could see how much technology has made our lives easier, to imagine them a little jealous is inevitable. For this reason, I have vowed to never give up on building the life of my dreams because I am damn lucky to be living in this Era. It’s safe to say that our generation is the most connected. Making our dreams become true has never been this easy therefore I shall stop apologizing for spending too much time on my phone/laptop. I do it proudly, because the internet can offer me free and narrowed information in a matter of seconds. Spending hours learning and practicing my craft is the proven way to do it and if hours in front of a screen is what it takes, I will happily take the deal.
What makes you appreciate your smartphone? Do you even appreciate it at all? Let me know!
